I first became acquainted with Latin in high school, where I vehemently hated every aspect of the language. However, I was offered the opportunity to take a Latin class during my freshman year of college, which opened my eyes to the amazing qualities not only of the Latin language, but also of a truly inspirational teacher. I have not stopped reading, learning, or teaching Latin since.
I have a B.A. degree in Classics (Latin and Greek) from Smith College in Northampton, MA and an M.A.T. degree in Latin and Classical Humanities from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA.
I firmly believe that a great teacher is one who instills a little bit of fear, a lot of love, and an uncanny ability to make his or her students laugh, which I try to do on a daily basis. I loved my first five years working as the Latin teacher at Oliver Ames and look forward to a great 2019-2020 academic year. I have previously taught Latin at Stoughton High School in Stoughton, MA and the Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood, NJ. For the past several years, I have developed a special passion for online teaching and have worked as both an in-person and online tutor for all levels of the Latin language, from middle school to graduate level studies. Currently, I am interested in and exploring how game-based learning and technology can improve Latin pedagogy. I diligently try to impart infectious enthusiasm and a sharp sense of humor into all my classes and hope to make the study of Latin as fun and enjoyable as possible.
I am very actively involved in activities and organizations promoting Latin pedagogy outside the classroom. I recently attended a 9 day, 24/7 oral Latin boot camp, the Conventiculum Dickinsoniense, at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA (which was AMAZING), and I have been an annual attendee of a number of different professional conferences and seminars held by noted educational organizations, including the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools, the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association, the Classical Association of Massachusetts, and the Classical Association of New England. I currently supervise and advise the OA Latin Club as well.
I am also the principal and founder of the Endowment for the Continuation of Latin and Classical Humanities at the Elisabeth Morrow School.
